Smart city festival: Kragujevac winner of the Open Data Award

The Smart City Festival, held in Belgrade, the city of Kragujevac, was recognized for outstanding results in Open Data.

Within the project “Open data, create on map”, implemented by Palgo smart, with the support of UNDP, the Office for IT and eGovernment, UKAid, the British Embassy and the World Bank Group, Kragujevac was awarded for open data in the field of public transport . Thanks to the project, Google Maps (example) makes all city and suburban lines available, which puts our city side by side with world capitals. Kragujevac is also the first and only local self-government in Serbia to have its own open data portal, which has open data on energy consumption in public buildings.

Kragujevac started opening the data, recognizing this process as an important step in opening public administration to the local community. Opening data makes a significant contribution to the transparency of local government work and is a way to encourage the whole community to innovate and improve the work of public services, as well as to provide new opportunities for students of the University of Kragujevac.

The award was presented by the Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment, Dr. Mihajlo Jovanovic, and was received on behalf of the Mayor by Zorana Djorovic, BIC Director and Project Coordinator. As part of the festival agenda, Djrovic presented the process of opening data, the implementation of the Google Transit system, as activities that the city of Kragujevac implements and plans in the domain of Smart City solutions.
